Nico,
your questions are hard to answer. Best would be to post first the model of PID you plan
to replace.
The Delta B seem to be better (a little faster) than the model A. Potentially the BTB is
just an updated version of the BTA.
Regarding the ordering options
- 5 output group selection: depends on the load you need to control with this and how via
voltage or current
- 6 2nd output group selection might be irrelevant as you might need to control only one
load per PID
- 7 EVENT input: might also be irrelevant as you might not have a need for an extra event
input in your control loop
Take a look also at the MaxWell MTA-48 PIDs that might be in the same price and feature
range and first check on your current PID and which loads are controlled by them and how.
Regarding the converter. Yes, you need a converter that translates from USB to RS485
(2-wire). There are a number of options, no need to get one from Delta. The PID side of
things is usually not problematic, the USB side is. Some very cheap once lack a driver for
certain OS versions or run in-stable. Two such I never could get to work. There are
high-quality once with optical isolation. Try to get one of those to avoid ground loop
issues. The better converters come with a FTDI chip that has good driver support for most
OS (build in now in later OS X version and most Linux kernels, not sure about Windows, but
installers for Windows exist).

Anybody would have any idea on this?

OK, 2 questions on PIDs:
I am planning to change the PID on my roaster to be able to connect and control it in
Artisan.
1.-
I am currently looking at the Delta DTA or DTB (is A or B better?) but I am not sure
which model I need in the long
list(http://www.deltaacdrives.com/delta-dtb-advanced-temperature-controller… ).
I want to make sure I get it right before ordering.
Looking at the user manual:
http://www.bb-elec.com/Products/Manuals/DTB48-TempController-Manual1-3-06.p… on page 2,
it tells me the meaning of the product code:
DTB 1|2|3|4| _ |5|6| _ |7|
Where:
1,2,3,4 = panel size (this I understand)
then
5 =1st Output Group Selection
6 = 2nd Output Group Selection
7= EVENT Inputs / CT function (Optional)
My question is for 5, 6 and 7, do I need anything specific to work with Artisan? Or will
all model work?
2.-
PID connection
If I got it right, I need an interface to connect the Delta PID to the
computer (such
ashttp://www.deltaww.com/Products/CategoryListT1.aspx?CID=060305&PID=52…
).
I red on
http://www.home-barista.com/home-roasting/connect-delta-dta-to-artisan-t416… that
some are doing it over Bluetooth. Which interface would anybody recommend?
Hopefully my questions are making sense and are not too stupid…
For general information, the setup is to go with:
• Roaster: Neuhaus Neotec Signum L RFB roaster
• Computer: Raspberry Pi
